UFC Gilbert Burns tests COVID positive - Out of UFC 251
The main event of UFC 251 has been derailed by the ongoing global pandemic. The match between Gilbert Burns and Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight Championship is no more in the scenes as Durinho has tested positive for COVID.
Earlier, It was reported from various sources that Gilbert Burns has been pulled out of the main event card of UFC 251 which takes place at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi.
Gilbert Burns trained in Florida and then moved to Las Vegas. Fighters are sent to Abu Dhabi from Las Vegas, where they test (COVID) the fighters. Durinho's test did not come in an anticipated way. Gilbert Burns and both his brother Herbert Burns, and cornerman and coach Greg Jones tested positive for COVID.
Gilbert Burns, Herbert Burns and Greg Jones didn't board the charter flight departing Las Vegas. It is also reported from various sources that Kamaru Usman too didn't board the plane.
After the news circulated in social media, Gilbert Burns explained the situation on his social media handles. Durinho stated that he is not feeling well and added that he is going to win this battle. Gilbert Burns also advised people to stay safe.
Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns were scheduled to meet at UFC 251 in a title fight along with Alexander Volkanovski vs Max Holloway and Jose Aldo vs Petr Yan. But now, The fight is derailed and expected to happen at a later date which is to be announced.
Possible opponents to replace Gilbert Burns
Top welterweight contenders are waiting for an opportunity to replace Durinho. But no one is more itchy than Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington.
The Gamebred took the opportunity of the situation and posted a photo on Twitter featuring his nickname, Gamebred and it's meaning.
The BMF champion stated that gamebred is an animal that has been bred to be game indicating that he is willing to fight Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight Championship.
Jorge Masvidal was the first hand choice before Burns was called. Earlier Masvidal left the opportunity to face Kamaru Usman because he was offered less money. This time Gamebred is ready to fight Usman to prove what he is worth.
Also, Colby Covington, who lost to Kamaru Usman earlier, is ready to grab the opportunity. Colby stated on Twitter that he will be called up to face Kamaru Usman.
Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are favourite ones to meet Kamaru Usman. Do you have any other plans running in your mind?
