Dana White has high hopes on Dominick Cruz and Fight Island

Dominick Cruz is set to face the Messenger, Henry Cejudo at UFC 249. There is good news and it's official. UFC 249 will take place on May 9 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville.

Dominick Cruz and Henry Cejudo had a bitter rivalry on social media last week. Dominick Cruz used twitter to take down Henry Cejudo and his coach. He posted "Dear Henry Cejudo, the real king has already been told that we’re fighting May 9th. I’ll see you there." He mentioned in post salutation to bring his little coach Eric Albarracin so that he can slap them both around.

‘The Messenger’ was very simple in responding. He replied to beg him for a fight. Cejudo was originally scheduled to fight Jose Aldo. But the match was canceled due to the global pandemic which caused restrictions in many areas. Jose Aldo was unable to retain the spot because of travel issues.

People have a lot of hope in Dominick Cruz as he is fighting for the first time in almost four years. Dominick Cruz fought back in December 2016 where he lost the title. This is a returning title opportunity. Dominick Cruz (22-2 MMA, 5-1 UFC) will fight Henry Cejudo for the bantamweight championship in the co-headliner of UFC 249.

UFC president Dana White had no problem in giving Dominick Cruz a title shot at UFC 249 despite his long term absence.

Dana White shared on Instagram that Dominick Cruz is still one of the best in the world and Cruz is a guy who has been incredibly suffered from injuries throughout his career. But, Those injuries never stopped Cruz from being the number one.

Dana White added that For a guy like Henry Cejudo, who literally is ready to fight anybody and wants to fight the best in the world, Jose Aldo and guys like Dominick Cruz are the correct opponents.

If Cruz retains his past form, then Cejudo can't stop the dominant force. But, there is a lot of uncertainty about Dominick Cruz. Cruz has suffered a severe loss to Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 which took place in December 2016. This loss is always in the mind of Dominick Cruz. It's his first loss at UFC. Will Dominick Cruz be able to get the upper hand this time?

The majority of people are not by the side of Cruz. They are in favor of Henry Cejudo. But few criticized Cejudo despite his fan run. On another hand, Cruz didn't leave the sport completely for this time, he had been active and entertaining the global audience by being a cage-side commentator for the UFC as well as an analyst for ESPN. He didn't completely forget the sport. He worked as a mentor and also trained himself in the gyms. So, we may see a new champion crowned.

Dana White also in a recent interview mentioned the fight island. Fight Island is currently being set up. Dana White said that the location is globally accessible and fighters from all over the United States could be brought in, as well. It was also revealed that several UFC events are targeted for May 9, May 13, May 16, and May 23 in Jacksonville. White said that Fight Island will follow after that.

Dana White expressed that It's almost ready. Fight Island should be up and running by June, so he should be able to do international events by June. White said that it's only until May 23 and later after that, the island will be ready and UFC can start back their international stuff.

He also put the fans into imagination by saying that there will be an octagon on the beach. He added that there’s going to be training facilities for people, there will be hotels on the whole island and all the infrastructure will get ready by May. Seriously Dana White has high hopes on Dominick Cruz and Fight Island.
