Babyface Benoit lost to Alateng Heili in the bantamweight division on December 21, 2019. It was his return to the bantamweight division. After this loss, Benoit may have thought to leave the current division and join flyweight again then.
Benoit was scheduled to face Tyson Nam on May 2 in California. This fight was canceled due to the ongoing global pandemic. Dana White made his best effort to host the fights scheduled on this date. But, due to the involvement of ESPN and Disney, people couldn't see this happening.
Benoit was much interested in this fight and got disappointed after what happened. He expects this fight to be preserved and go on a later date. Benoit recently said that he definitely likes that booking (Benoit versus Tyson). He figured out that any fights UFC booked for this upcoming fight island or the Indian reservation land, those will probably be the first fights they fill up the first few fight cards with. (Only the best fights). He said that he doesn't know how true that is. The only thing he knew was that there were other guys before the pandemic hit and they have signed for upcoming events.
Benoit was confused and added that he didn't really know how it’s going to work out from here on out but he will be prepared for his opponent at any time. He said that the UFC can continue with this plan. Benoit is training his ass off in this difficult time and admitted that it's very tough to train in these situations with gyms partially closed and with a lack of accessories.
He is feared to go out of the house because he may bring a virus from there. Benoit said that before he got the fight, he was just trying to stay busy and train as often as he can. But now It’s pretty hard. Benoit added that nobody is stepping outside and he got kids. He said that he can't risk his family for his training.
Benoit also discussed his injuries and time off from UFC. Ryan Benoit is out of the UFC from 2017 and had a returning match which he lost. He said that he was off mostly because of injuries. During his fight in 2017, for a flyweight, Benoit had broken his hand and foot. He said that he had to take some time off and let injuries heal. He again had his ribs displaced and doctors advised him to be careful and if he is not, it will end his career. But he had a good returning match though in the bantamweight division.
Benoit said that he came back a little heavy and that’s why he decided to go to bantamweight. Halfway through the bantamweight fight camp, he was thinking that he is better at flyweight and doing it again.
