Amir Khan speaks about a rematch against Marlos Maidana

Amir Khan and Maidana battled in 2010 where the former one stood tall after ending the destructible force via a unanimous decision. Maidana later stepped away from the squared circle after his back to back losses against Floyd Mayweather.

Recently, Maidana spoke about a rematch against Amir Khan. In one of his recent conversations, Maidana said that it would be a very good fight. The British native is also willing to match up with his former opponent. Amir Khan, who scored a victory against Billy Dib last year, stated that he is ready to face him on one condition.

First, Amir Khan praised Maidana for his determined efforts. Amir Khan said that Maidana is one of his toughest opponents. Amir Khan continued to note Maidana’s skills. Khan has a lot of respect for everything that happened in their fight. With all due respect, Amir Khan accepted the rematch challenge but on a condition.

Amir Khan stipulated that his coach Alex Ariza must be by his side for the potential rematch. Both Amir Khan and Maidana worked with Alex Ariza. In the past, Amir Khan was guided by Alex Ariza. Later, Maidana joined forces with Ariza. Last year, Alex prepared Maidana for a comeback which didn’t happen due to various reasons.

Amir Khan and Maidana: A look into the past

Amir Khan and Marcos Maidana brawled in a mandated fight on 11 December 2010 in Las Vegas. The British-Pakistani origin dominated the first part of the fight. Amir Khan knocked down Marcus Maidana in the first round but Maidana survived those shots and recovered in the second half of the fight.

Marcos Maidana completely dominated the last three rounds. But, He wasn’t able to knock Amir leading to a Unanimous decision that favored Amir. Both fighters earned respect for each other and this fight was the biggest blockbuster at that time.

Even Floyd Mayweather had attention on these guys. But, Despite choosing Amir Khan, He chose to face Maidana in a unification bout for all welterweight gold. Maidana bowed down to one of the toughest challenges in his first fight. Marlos later availed a rematch that he couldn’t successfully utilize.

After two back to back losses, Maidana seemed not to fight again. In 2016, Marlos Maidana officially announced his retirement which didn’t shock many people. Later, In 2019, Maidana changed his mind and wanted to box again which didn’t happen due to various reasons. On the other hand, Amir Khan is still knocking down customers in his way.
